AXECOM Private DID Assignment Method

AXECOM can supply additional Public and Private DIDs if needed. First, we must determine if you need these DIDs to be Public direct dial numbers or do you simply need a Private number to be assigned to a telephone when using PRI as your telephone line type. One key thing to note is that Public DID numbers may involve additional fees.

AXECOM utilizes the North American area code 700 of the North American Numbering Plan as the Private DID exchange on its Network. This area code was introduced in 1983 to allow for pre-subscribing phone numbers to particular inter-exchange carriers. Numbers in this area code are exclusive to the specific carrier, so that in the case of the fictional phone number (700-223-4567), where that number terminates could be one customer for Carrier A, and an entirely different customer for each of any other Carrier B, Carrier C, etc.

Public .vs Private DID

Public DID: Telephone numbers that are routable through the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and can be called from most any remote subscriber such as cell phone, landline, etc.

Private DID: Telephone numbers which are exclusive to each telephone carrier and are used for on-net & peering partner routing only. AXECOM often uses Private DID numbers for State Farm agent offices who have PRI services. A few ways these Private DID numbers are most commonly used for the agent offices are:

1. Offer private direct dialing into individual phones within the Cisco Unified Communications System when using custom services such as Dial Your Leads (DYL).

2. Offer private direct dialing into individual phones within the Cisco Unified Communications System when using AXECOM's IVR/Automated Attendant services.

3. Assign DID number(s) to be designed as the Extension ID on a telephone within the Cisco Unified Communications System.

Most of the time each AXECOM PRI user account will be assigned a block of Private DIDs that is available for immediate or future use. These DIDs are assigned based upon a dial plan which corresponds to the AXECOM user’s system and subscriber numbers.
